The Black Crows

In b. Abstract/Arty,f. Nature & Sky by admin / December 30, 2010 / 0 Comments

Some pictures of birds during the snow. The first two are very similar, I just wanted to show what a bit of editing does. I cropped tighter for the second one so the picture is filled more which I think looks better. I could have come up with a lot of titles, such as ‘I’m still not talking to you’, ‘you talking to me’, ‘bird(s) on a wire’, etc. The last one is just an evil looking crow.

Tis The Season To Be Jolly Fa la la la la, la la la la

In b. Abstract/Arty by admin / December 25, 2010 / 0 Comments

I think collages are very simple to make but look impressive. You don’t need to have any great photos but they give a great overview of a story or the atmosphere of an event.
I think I might use this for any Christmas cards we (by we I mean my wife) send out this year.

What Does Your Soul Look Like (Rothko imitation)

In b. Abstract/Arty,g.Colourful by admin / December 4, 2010 / 0 Comments

At work one of our current competition categories is ‘Abstract’.
These photos are two I took at home tonight, one a Rothko copy and one trying to convey a human soul.
The sunset through my back door reminds me of the Russian-born American abstract painter Rothko.

Human soul- This one was just messing around but I kind of like it. It’s my breath, taken standing outside my back door in the (very) cold. The photo on it’s own it very forgetful but when you associate it to a human soul escaping a dead body then breathes (no pun intended) a whole new life into the photo.

Ireland Snow (Ice, Ice Baby)

In a. Galway,f. Nature & Sky by admin / November 27, 2010 / 0 Comments

Ireland Snow!

We normally don’t get much snow in Ireland, in fact we normally get no snow in Ireland. The winter of 2010 was different, we got so much snow that roads and schools were closed.
This was the first snowfall in Ireland of 2010. It began up north on Friday, 26th of November and covered most of the country by Saturday.

People often say one of the downsides to living in Irlenad is the weather- a fair bit of rain and not much sun or summer heat. While that’s true we also don’t have people dying in heatwaves or snowstorms like other countries. And Bill Bryson, the humorous travel author said if Ireland had good weather the place would be too crowded with tourists.

Harrods (The Good Old Days)

In k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / November 10, 2010 / 3 Comments

Harrods

Harrods. Probably one of most famous shop in the world? To me Harrods is anyway. Maybe Macys and Hamleys are up there with it but Harrods has the element of style, Harrods oozes class and the wow factor.
When I was a child I used to visit my cousins in London and always looked forward to a trip to Harrods, watching with awe the magician and playing amongst the many, many toys.
In this Harrods photo I photoshopped out some cars and bits n pieces to try to make it look like Harrods from the past. I added the second photo to show what the original photo compared to the photoshopped version.

The Good old days in the post title ‘Harrods (The Good old days)’ is a song from the album ‘Up the Bracket’ by The Libertines.

Barclays Cycle Hire is a public bicycle sharing scheme in London, United Kingdom. At launch there were 5,000 bicycles and 315 docking stations available in central London. I think it\’s a great idea and results in a lot more people cycling. 4 wheels bad, 2 wheels good.

Busy Bee on a flower

A bee working away in my back garden. I zoomed into 250mm to try not to disturbe the bee (or get stung). It was hard to get a shot with a good position but here you can literally see him collecting the nectar. The bee collects nectar, while pollen collects on its body

Beautiful Baby (Darling Boy)
Close your eyes, Have no fear, The monsters gone,
He’s on the run and your daddy’s here,
Beautiful, Beautiful, beautiful, Beautiful Boy,
Before you go to sleep, Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way, It’s getting better and better,
Beautiful, Beautiful, beautiful, Beautiful Boy,
Out on the ocean sailing away, I can hardly wait, To see you to come of age,
But I guess we’ll both, Just have to be patient,
Yes it’s a long way to go, But in the meantime,
Before you cross the street, Take my hand, Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,
Beautiful, Beautiful, beautiful, Beautiful Boy,
Darling, Darling, Darling Conor.
