SAP Walldorf Architecture

In k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / March 1, 2015 / 0 Comments

SAP Walldorf Architecture

SAP SE is a German multinational software corporation that makes enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations. SAP SE headquarters are in Walldorf, Germany and is home to over 14,000 employees in multiple buildings.

In this set I wanted to reduce the buildings to simple lines and patterns. The first photo (SAP building 21) provides you with an idea of what some of the buildings look like; the rest are somewhat abstract but still striking. By converting the photos to black and white removes further distractions and allows you to simply appreciate the simplicity of the lines and patterns. Run Simple is the new slogan of SAP and these photos do ‘run simple’.

Grand Canal Dock Architecture Abstract

In b. Abstract/Arty,k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / November 21, 2014 / 0 Comments

I recently had a luxurious stay in The Marker Hotel, Grand Canal Dock in Dublin last weekend. The Grand Canal Dock has undergone major recent rejuvenation, now houses some exciting and eye-catching buildings, including The Marker Hotel and the Bord Gais Energy Theatre.

Both are very striking buildings and I was drawn to the lines and patterns in both. the first four photos are of the Bord Gais Energy Theatre (left)The last three photographs are of the side of the Bord Gais Energy Theatre, an (unknown to me) office building and The Marker Hotel, which has the black and white patchwork design.

Inverted Skyscraper

In b. Abstract/Arty,k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / October 11, 2014 / 0 Comments

The photo below is window cleaners washing a skyscraper in Barcelona, Spain. By inverting the photo I think it transforms the photo into something peculiar that challenges you and makes you wonder for a second what the picture actually is.

Lighthouse

In b. Abstract/Arty by admin / August 4, 2014 / 0 Comments

Taking a photo of the lighthouse in it’s entirety and surroundings it’s exactly my style; I prefer more abstract. For this photo I was really drawn to the calmness of the clear blue sky and how the colours of the lighthouse complemented the tranquility.

This was taken in Cambrilis Park, near Salou in Spain on a family holiday.

Echo Big Wheel of Liverpool (The Big Wheel Keeps On Turning)

In k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / February 15, 2013 / 0 Comments

The Liverpool Big Wheel (The Echo Wheel of Liverpool) is located on the piazza outside the Liverpool Echo Arena and Convention Centre, close to the Albert Dock in Liverpool, England. Both the Big Wheel and the Liverpool Echo Arena and Convention Centre are partially in this photograph.

What appeals to me about the photograph is the sense of symmetry building and the Big Wheel. I added a graduated filter as the sky was a dull grey.

Galway Cathedral (Push The Sky Away)

In a. Galway,k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / January 15, 2013 / 1 Comment

An old photo of mine of Galway Cathedral, with a simple filter applied (in Flickr’s built in photo editor). I really have to start using Adobe Lightroom and learn how to make little changes, such as ‘remove’ the light in the bottom-right-corner which is distracting.

Won’t Be Back

Three boarded up houses on Bohermore, Galway City. I prefer the black and white photo but posted up the colour version as well, which one do you prefer?

This for me is a good example of finding a photograph in something mundane, a scene most would just walk past and not give it a second glance. Some boarded up houses, not very interesting? But looking and thinking as a photographer it’s a different world. Here I saw a reflection of the economy, a pattern in the houses and like the lines (straight lines rock!).

Post title ‘Won’t Be Back’ is a song title from ‘Recovery’ album by Eminem (Marshall Mathers). I think it fits very nicely to this photo as it portrays a broken home and poverty.

This is the coastal town that they forgot to close down

A selection of abandoned houses on a drive from Kilkenny to just outside Galway (150km journey). I’ve often observed old, abandoned buildings when driving along the roads of Ireland. Normally I’m with my family so I don’t have the opportunity to stop multiple times and spend time photographing. Recently I was in Kilkenny for a weekend and drove down on my own. So I took this opportunity to stop and shoot any old building I drove past.

It was quiet a ‘funny’ drive; I’d be driving along keeping an eye out, spot an old house, glance in my mirrors and if the road was clear do a u-turn, pull in (safely somewhere), jump out, snap-snap-snap, jump back in and turn around again and drive on. It was fun for the first hour or so but became quiet repetitive and tedious towards the end of my journey but interesting to see the different states of ruin. Eventually they’ll all end up a bare skeleton of bricks overgrown by greenery.

Blue. Lines. In Galway

In f. Nature & Sky,k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / February 11, 2012 / 1 Comment

I was driving in Galway on a clear day, spotted this stunning building with it’ very sharp, clear lines and pulled in to photograph it. I like the simplicity everywhere in the scene; rich blue complete sky and the apartments with concise straight lines. Kevin McCould, the architect from ‘that house building show’ would love it I’m sure.

Let’s bring out the Liberty Bell (Shandon Bells, Cork)

In k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / November 19, 2011 / 0 Comments

I was originally going to delete this photo but the more I look at it the more I like it, the view from down a side street. The Shandon Bells (official name Church of St Anne) is the building with the clock in Shandon, Cork City. It’s known locally as the “Four Faced Liar” because each face (four clocks, one on each side of the church) show slightly different times.

Limerick Inner City Life (Goldie)

In i. Black&White,k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / November 17, 2011 / 3 Comments

This was taken from the 7th floor of The Savoy hotel in Limerick City. It’s a view of Limerick (or any city) that most people don’t see or, if they do, pay any attention to. It stands out to me as it’s the unseen side of a city, the ‘behind the scenes’ part without any shiny shopfronts.

On a vaguely related note I always pay attention to the condition of the toilets in any establishment. Sometimes you have an extremelly fancy restaurant/store but the toilets are very basic or even dirty. Which my mum always said to me is a reflection on the establishment overall. If they can’t bother to keep the toilets clean how can you trust them with the hygeine of your food, after sales service etc.
The second photo is just the original cropped and in black and white. I couldn’t decide which I preferred so I posted both.

Situated on the banks of the River Corrib in Galway city, Galway Cathedral is the most recently built of Europe’s great stone cathedrals. I didn’t have a tripod so had to balance my camera on the roof of my car.

I took this photo taken from the eighteenth floor of The Jumeirah Carlton Tower, London. The London Eye glows like a ball, which stands out I think. The exposure was 10 seconds and I used the windowsill as my tripod.

Oh Manchester, so much to answer for (Old Trafford, Manchester United)

In h. Sport,k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / December 17, 2009 / 0 Comments

I took this (with a standard compact) on a tour of Old Trafford (Theatre of Dreams), home stadium to football team Manchester United. I found it a very interesting tour. But then again I enjoy football stadium tours in general because it allows me to ask multiple questions and you get to learn some interesting trivia and facts ( the rainwater that falls on the roofs is ‘recycled’ and used for the toilets).

At the beginning of the 19th century, the Alexanderplatz was one of the busiest squares in Berlin. he TV tower, known as the Fernsehturm or the Tele-spargel (toothpick) is one of the largest structures in Europe. The total length to the top of the spire is 365m or 1197 ft. It was built in 1969 by a team of architects with the help of Swedish experts.
