SAP Walldorf Architecture

In k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / March 1, 2015 / 0 Comments

SAP Walldorf Architecture

SAP SE is a German multinational software corporation that makes enterprise software to manage business operations and customer relations. SAP SE headquarters are in Walldorf, Germany and is home to over 14,000 employees in multiple buildings.

In this set I wanted to reduce the buildings to simple lines and patterns. The first photo (SAP building 21) provides you with an idea of what some of the buildings look like; the rest are somewhat abstract but still striking. By converting the photos to black and white removes further distractions and allows you to simply appreciate the simplicity of the lines and patterns. Run Simple is the new slogan of SAP and these photos do ‘run simple’.

Galway Bay Seascape abstract

In a. Galway,b. Abstract/Arty by admin / January 20, 2015 / 0 Comments

This seascape abstract photo mightn’t be everyone’s cup of tea, I’m guessing that a lot of people will think it’s dull and drab. But some people might really like it; I do anyway. It’s a slightly long exposure (1/40 second) photo of a small wave, the water in Galway Bay and an overcast sky. I was hoping for a sunny day so I’d have a bright blue sky, blue water and capture a bright photo; this is the opposite.

So, why do I like this seascape abstract photo? The simplicity and serenity; I find it extremely calming as there’s nothing to grab your eye’s attention. The straight line near the top of the photo and the line of the crest of the small wave create a pattern of kinds. It reminds me, very vaguely of Rhein II by Andreas Gursky (which at $4.3 million, was the world’s most expensive photo for a period of time). You can own Galway Bay Seascape Abstract for over 1/100,000 the cost!

Galway Man

In a. Galway,d. People & Animals by admin / June 22, 2014 / 0 Comments

I walked past this man sitting on a wall in Galway. I had my camera with me, turned around to talk to him and ask if he minded if I took his photo. He said he it was okay; most people tend to once you ask them.

Abstract Chairs

In b. Abstract/Arty by admin / April 3, 2014 / 0 Comments

Most of the time scenes, objects to photograph are obvious and everyone can spot them; the beautiful landscape, a stunning building etc. I don’t have any one particular style of photography, I tend to photograph anything and everything that cathes my eye. I do seem to enjoy finding something less obvious and capturing it.

I think this abstract photo of a stack of chairs is a good example. They were stacked under a doorway somewhere in the Albert Docks in Liverpool. I like the patterns created and how a simple stack of chairs can become something abstract and worth photographing (to me anyway.)

The Birds- Starling Birds Starlings murmuration in Galway

In f. Nature & Sky by admin / January 24, 2014 / 2 Comments

Every year thousands of starlings fly in patterns above Lackagh, Galway. This is called murmation and is amazing to watch.
I tried to capture the spirit and fear from Alfred Hitchcocks classic film The Birds. The birds look almost like an invasion of fighter planes in the sky.

The Birds was the title of a 1960’s popular rhythm and blues band from the UK that contained the (in)famous Ronnie Wood.

Won’t Be Back

Three boarded up houses on Bohermore, Galway City. I prefer the black and white photo but posted up the colour version as well, which one do you prefer?

This for me is a good example of finding a photograph in something mundane, a scene most would just walk past and not give it a second glance. Some boarded up houses, not very interesting? But looking and thinking as a photographer it’s a different world. Here I saw a reflection of the economy, a pattern in the houses and like the lines (straight lines rock!).

Post title ‘Won’t Be Back’ is a song title from ‘Recovery’ album by Eminem (Marshall Mathers). I think it fits very nicely to this photo as it portrays a broken home and poverty.

Galway Girl ( Galway Ghost )

In a. Galway,i. Black&White by admin / February 24, 2012 / 0 Comments

You might or might not have read about the spotting a ghost in Galway, Ireland recenlty-

Well, here’s not one, but two that I spotted a good while back on Shop Street, Galway.

(The G Hotel, Galway) Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of…

The G hotel is Galway’s only 5 star hotel. It was designed by Irish milliner Philip Tracey it oozes of luxury, modern design and is great to relax ‘away from it all’.

One of their main features in the hundreds of metal balls hanging from the ceiling in the main lounge room. It has floor to ceiling glass and overlooks Galway Bay. These are what I focused on here but I had to throw in one colour photo to show how loud, in-your-face one of the other rooms is (I call it the Alice In Wonderland room).

A man relaxing down by The Claddagh in Galway City. I’m beginning to convert a lot of photos to black and white, sometimes I wouldn’t have even thought about it if a photo is good but often they just look nicer in black and white. Maybe because there’s less colour to ‘distract’ your eyes.

Most photos I don’t frame online but this one just seemed nicer in a frame to me…

We are the Music Makers

In a. Galway,i. Black&White by admin / August 23, 2011 / 0 Comments

I’ve often walked past this music store in Galway City and thought to myself that the guitars sitting in the window would make a nice photo. So last week I popped in and asked the owner of this music store could I take some photos in his store. He said no problem and I spent a while snapping away.

Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)

In d. People & Animals,i. Black&White by admin / September 13, 2010 / 2 Comments
Beautiful Baby (Darling Boy)
Close your eyes, Have no fear, The monsters gone,
He’s on the run and your daddy’s here,
Beautiful, Beautiful, beautiful, Beautiful Boy,
Before you go to sleep, Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way, It’s getting better and better,
Beautiful, Beautiful, beautiful, Beautiful Boy,
Out on the ocean sailing away, I can hardly wait, To see you to come of age,
But I guess we’ll both, Just have to be patient,
Yes it’s a long way to go, But in the meantime,
Before you cross the street, Take my hand, Life is just what happens to you,
While your busy making other plans,
Beautiful, Beautiful, beautiful, Beautiful Boy,
Darling, Darling, Darling Conor.

The lone rider

I was driving through Lackagh when I saw this cyclist coming towards me from out of the fog. I quickly pulled over, grabbed my camera and managed to snap him before he cycled past. I like the atmosphere that the fog adds to the picture.

Claregalway Friary (Sun is Shining)

CLAREGALWAY FRIARY
Claregalway Friary was founded by John de Cogan about 1250 and was richly endowed by the de Feoris or the de Bermingham family. The nave of this rectangular church has a north aisle of four bays. Here the sun shines through a window in the central tower. It’s a great ruin and ideally should be light up at nighttime.
