Pentax Cake for my 40th Birthday

In d. People & Animals by admin / July 7, 2015 / 0 Comments

Often with photographers you never see picture of the person behind the camera and it’s true with me too. So here’s a rare photo of my at my surprise 40th birthday.* I’m a chocoholic so of course the cake was make of chocolate and had an edible Pentax camera on top.

My wife and I went out for dinner to celebrate her birthday, afterwards we went to Massimos pub in Galway City to meet a friend. There was no sign of him but my wife said to have a look in the backroom and when I opened the curtain I was shocked to see the surprise party waiting. A big thanks to everyone for turning up, hope ye all had as good a night as I did. And a special thanks to Debbie, my wife, for planning and organising it.

* It’s not my 40th birthday until the middle of July but as we’ll be abroad on holidays my wife organised my surprise birthday in advance. I have to congratulate her on all the effort she put into planning the night, contacting friends and somehow managing to keep the whole thing a secret; I was absolutely astonished and loved the surprise.

Galway Hooker Sculpture Abstract (Blackbird Fly)

In a. Galway,b. Abstract/Arty by admin / February 20, 2013 / 2 Comments

I’m always drawn to the Galway Hooker sculpture in Eyre Square, Galway. I like the rustic look of it and the straight lines and very sharp angles. These are two abstract photographs of the Eyre Square sculpture with a crow resting on it.

My favourite photographs from 2012

I know it’s February so this is a bit old but here’s a video I created showcasing some of my favourite photographs from 2012.

My two highlights of the year were
1. I shot two weddings last year (some photos included in the video).

2. I was suprised and delighted to have a photograph of a man outside The Crane bar in Galway featured in the L.A. Times Travel section.

Anyway, I hope you had a great 2012 and enjoyed my photographs. Thanks for looking.

Galway Cathedral (Push The Sky Away)

In a. Galway,k.Buildings & Architecture by admin / January 15, 2013 / 1 Comment

An old photo of mine of Galway Cathedral, with a simple filter applied (in Flickr’s built in photo editor). I really have to start using Adobe Lightroom and learn how to make little changes, such as ‘remove’ the light in the bottom-right-corner which is distracting.

Push The Sky Away is the album title of the new album from Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, to be released in February 2013.

Dublin Street Photography (Sidewalking)

In d. People & Animals by admin / January 6, 2013 / 1 Comment

Some of my attempts at street photography, taken on the Boards.ie Photography Photo Walk in Dublin in December of last year.

Street photography is harder than I thought, or at least there’s a learning/confidence curve. When you look at photos of street photography one thinks it’s simple but when you’re standing a few feet away from a stranger it’s harder than you think to point your camera at them and click. Obviously, the smaller the camera you have and the more subtle you are the easier it is.

Abstract Water Reflections (Time Stands Still)

In b. Abstract/Arty by admin / December 5, 2012 / 0 Comments

Always look for something differnet.
These abstract water reflection photographs were taken on the Boards.ie Photowalk in Dublin at the beginning of December. We were walking through the lovely Stephen’s Green in Dublin and I noticed the colourful reflection of the trees in the water. Stephen’s Green is a great nature escape in the center of Dublin City and is worth a stroll to have a break from the rush and busy city center outside.

I didn’t know which one I prefer so I posted two photos

Watch The Sunrise

In c. Macro & Flowers,f. Nature & Sky by admin / May 10, 2012 / 0 Comments

Another macro photograph. Just in case you miss it, there’s a fly climbing up the weed. I did get some strange looks from people in cars driving past; me lying in the ditch on the side of the road…..

Post title ‘Watch The Sunrise’ is a song title from American band Big Star. I know it from Belle and Sebastian’s Late Night Tales.
